You know, after watching some of the russo/finnish episodes of mst3k (Jack Frost, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad, etc...), we know that the Russians are capable of doing a really awesome job with fantasy movies (it's generally the english conversion and editing that made it goofy as hell). This looks like a really decent attempt at making a decent version of the movie (it uses video effects that I was using in elementary school back around the same time, and the little dinosaur short I made looked more realistic than the dragon in this movie...and I was using my plastic toys from home).
I watched the Desolation of Smaug Friday evening. It was awesome and disappointing at the same time. And the movie's ending was nut-punch sudden.
