I like to see the occasional fumble, broken weapon/bow string. This solution makes it possible but uncommon (far less common than just rolling a natural 1)
FUMBLES: whenever
a character or monster draws the 2 of clubs (formerly known as the “I go last
card” know known as the “Fumble Card”) he will suffer a Fumble or Mishap. Archers will have a bow string break,
swordsmen will drop their swords, those with a wooden-hafted (non-magic) weapon
will see that weapon break, spell-casters will trip and fall. In all
cases, the character loses his action for the round. If the fumble affects a whole group, the
leader only will have a weapon break or drop, the henchmen or followers simply
lose their turn.
This seems a lot better than the other systems of fumbles I've had in other games. I ran a swordsman in one game who had another player's couple of henchmen doing nothing but handing me back my sword in one fight because I kept dropping it.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, this will make fumbles rarer for those who have any initiative bonus.

ReplyDeleteI guess we can say fumble even if it is on one of several cards
ReplyDeleteThat will make those with the initiative bonus a lot more likely to fumble, since they have more chances to draw the "go last card".
DeleteMaybe you should modify the initiative bonus rules to read that they can get a new "hit" only if the initial initiative card isn't a '2'. After that, players may choose between the card they hold and the card that they got on the "hit".
DeleteOkay, I've updated it to "If he draws multiple cards due to high Dexterity, he will fumble only if the first card drawn is the 2 of clubs"
ReplyDeleteThis should make everyone's fumble chance the same.
